Many advertisements featuring merchandise by top designers such
as Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood
and John Galliano. Target audience: Women who have an interest
in fashion, French speaking early twenties - mid thirties. The
front cover of 'French' magazine introduces the magazine effectively.
Its gloss and glamour gives the reader a small taste of whats
inside the three hundred page plus magazine. The model featured
front centre of the cover appears to be like the target audience
of the text young and confident.
The expression is determined, which brings me to the idea that the
reader would be career driven and have a particular interest in
clothing and makeup. The lettering is bold and vibrant green,
contrasts with the black and white photograph of the featuring model;
effectively the lettering stands out and catches the eye.
The price of the magazine is steep at £5.95,
this would perhaps mean that the reader would be well to do,
if they bought the magazine on a regular basis.
The controversial aspect of this magazine is that it contains
adverts promoting alcohol and smoking.
This is not legal in the United Kingdom.
The magazine offers a contrast of taste.
It contains images that contain nudity and sex mixed with fashion and flamboyancy.
The magazine focuses on the 'artistic' element of fashion and the media.
The magazine is seasonal and is printed in Belgium.
'French' is distributed in thirty countries including the UK.
The images appear to be contemporary and therefore would appeal to a young
generation, however the magazines 'shock' appeal could attract many depending on
personality and personal interest.
The images begin with the combination of
fashionable clothing with bare breasts, which would not come as a surprise to those
who follow magazines of a similar type.
The images become much more extreme.
Eventually the readers are exposed to a picture featuring a male and a female in a
sex position.
The majority of the magazine is made up of advertisements.
The articles are lengthy and detailed, featuring pictures alongside text,
which makes the read somewhat more pleasurable.
The thick magazine appears more like a book than a magazine.
The models, designers and photographers that appear in the magazine are
at the top of their league.
The editoral and articles at the back of the magazine are written in English.
This is perhaps to make it easier for the non French speaking people who enjoy
looking at the magazine as it is extremely visual. The editoral is a review of the
season and events that have happened since the last magazine was published.
